Tharrawaddy (Burmeseသာယာဝတီ) is a city in Bago Region of lower Myanmar. It is the administrative seat of Tharrawaddy District and Tharrawaddy Township. It locates on the main Yangon-Pyay road and 76 miles away at the north of Yangon. The current city was built when under British rule, at that place. In the first British temporary seat at Thonze. However, Thonze is populated for district offices. Therefore, they decided to move two miles north of Thonze and the new district city was built in 1878. The name of the city called Tharyarwaddy as the Burmese old time name.

Letpatan Township (Burmeseလက်ပတန်းမြို့နယ်) is a township in Tharrawaddy District in the Bago Region of Burma.[2] The principal town is Letpadan.
About 200 students and supporters of the movement against Education Law were crushed down by police at Letpadan on 10 March 2015 after they had been blocked on their way to Yangon for nine days by police.[3] Over 100 were arrested after being attacked brutally by police force.

Minhla Township is a township in Tharrawaddy District in the Bago Region of Burma (Myanmar).[1] The principal town is Minhla. In 1908 it was reported that the township covered an area of 708 square miles (1,830 km2) and in 1901 had a total population of 42, 120, with 2553 people in the main town.[2]Minhla was occupied during the Third Anglo-Burmese War. The township is hilly, and is inhabited by the Arakan Yoma.
